JESSIE ECCLES QUINNEY CENTER FOR DANCE AND CAPITOL THEATER RENOVATION
Ballet West and The Salt Lake County Center for the Arts have come together in a public private partnership to renovate the Capitol Theatre and build the Jessie Eccles Quinney Center for Dance – home to Ballet West and the Ballet West Academy. This addition to the Capitol Theatre will be built on the lot just west of the existing facility, located at 50 West 200 South. The benefits of this expansion are threefold:
- For the Capitol Theatre there will be a lobby and concession expansion, increased restroom facilities, an energy efficient heating and cooling system, improved seating and sightlines, and a new banquet hall.
- For Ballet West there will be increased studio and rehearsal space, expanded Academy enrollment for new students and expanded community education and outreach capacity. The facility also enables Ballet West to bring its wardrobe and costume shop in-house, improving efficiency.
- The Jessie Eccles Quinney Center will enhance Salt Lake City by helping to create a more walkable city with pedestrian access to City Creek and improved outdoor public spaces. The project provides another example of downtown stewardship by seeking LEED Gold certification. Completion is expected in 2013.
